Throughout the world a new surfing trend is emerging creating some of the most desirable surfing locations. You can call them surf resorts, hostels, or camps, but these places take pride in providing the perfect surfing location. They will provide you with everything you need, even the best surfboards for big guys if you are one of them.
For some reason, even though they are the meccas for surfers, this trend has yet to truly hit the area of Southern California. Two friends are now trying to change that with their Nomads Hotel and Canteen located in the city of San Clemente.
“Originally, the idea for the Nomads was a very simple one, and it surpises us that no hotels in the area of Southern California take care of you in the same way that they do in the rest of the world. In these place, the staff will take you surfing themselves, feed you, show you around, and more.” says the co-owner Jeff Gourley.
“I couldn’t tell you why places like this didn’t exist for the life of me”, he continues, “We want to give visitors the full experience.”
The owners want Nomads to maintain a laid-back attitude that surfers enjoy across the world.
The 49-year-old co-owner stated that the thought of a full-experience surfing resort located in Southern California has held a place in his head and heart for many years, however, he never found the ideal location. Luckily, he eventually found a property for lease in San Clemente in 2012.
“Immediately, I knew I had to lease it for the longterm and plan renovations”.
No time was wasted by the two owners, and soon Nomads was up and running.
